Titus 1:5–9 gives us the qualifications for elders, but the passage is more than a leadership checklist. It paints a picture of spiritual maturity that every believer should pursue. The character described here, being self-controlled, faithful, humble, disciplined, and grounded in God’s Word, is the kind of person Christ is calling all of us to become. Elders are called to model this maturity, but the calling to grow in Christlikeness belongs to every believer.

Titus is ultimately a book about maturity. Paul challenges believers to move beyond simply knowing what they believe and toward living in a way that reflects it. Mature faith produces mature character, healthy leadership, strong relationships, and a life marked by good works. In Titus, what we believe is meant to become visible in how we live.
