Day 2: Table
Read
Matthew 21:12-17, Mark 11:15-18
Set the Scene
Tables are one of the most basic and versatile tools found in nearly every home and business, regardless of culture or century. Across the world, even in places without chairs or traditional tables, flat serving surfaces are still commonly used. Tables invite us to gather as family or friends, to share a meal, a conversation, memories of the past and dreams for the future. They offer space and support for bigger projects and a place to display wares for sale or conduct business transactions. Tables enable us to accomplish more than what we can hold in our hands.
Reflection Questions
1. Why do you think God designed His temple with places for sacrifice but no other tables?
2. Jesus overturned the tables but did not break them. What insights does that give to His anger
3. Compare and contrast these tables in the temple and the “Lord’s Table” where Jesus led the first communion (Matthew 26:26-29).
4. What are your tables helping you do? How could you use your tables to bring God glory?
For Preschoolers: “Stack & Knock Over” (Hands-On Lesson)
📖 Read a few verses from Matthew 21:12-13 and explain in simple words: Jesus saw people using the temple (God’s house) to take money instead of worshiping. He was upset because the temple should be a place to pray and love God!
🧱 Activity:
Build & Overturn – Stack some plastic cups, blocks, or small boxes to create a pretend "table."
Then, let the kids knock it over as you say, “God’s house is for worship and prayer!”
Ask: How do we use our church to worship God today?
🙏 Pray Together: Thank God for church and ask Him to help us always use it to love and worship Him.
For Elementary Kids: “What Belongs in God’s House?”
📖 Read Matthew 21:12-17 or Mark 11:15-18 and discuss why Jesus was so passionate about keeping the temple a place of worship.
📝 Activity:
Make a List – Grab a piece of paper and fold it in half. On one side, write “Things that belong in church” (like prayer, worship, learning about Jesus, loving others). On the other side, write “Things that don’t belong” (like selfishness, distractions, unkindness).
Talk about how Jesus wants our hearts to be focused on Him, not just in church, but every day!
Ask: What are ways we can make sure our hearts are focused on Jesus when we are at church?
