Luke 23:26-43
Set the Scene
A nail. The lifelong symbol of sharpness and, in some cases, pain. In Luke 23:38 it says that a “written notice above him, which read: ‘This is the King of the Jews.’ Most likely hung up by a nail, it symbolizes how the soldiers mocked the King of the World. When Jesus was hung by these nails and was mocked, he did not talk back. No, instead he offered forgiveness, saying “‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’” Even through the painstaking death that we all deserve, our perfect and just Savior decided to take it on himself, bear the weight of our sin, and save us all from eternal life away from him.
